Edit the words on your app, right where they are

Sometimes the change you want is one word, or a question mark at the end of a headline. Edit text lets you make it directly on your running app: click the words, type, and save. The new version of your app differs from the last one by exactly what you typed.

Turn it on

  1. Open one of your apps. Edit text is there for the owner and for anyone you've given a developer grant.
  2. Open the vibe menu and find Edit text in the Code card, just under Code mode. With Code mode on, it sits beside the Code mode button.
  3. Switch it on. A yellow Editing pill sits next to the vibes switch while it's on.

Text you can change gets an outline when you hover over it.

Change the words

  • Click the text. An editing box opens right on top of it, in the same font.
  • Type your new words. Press Enter to keep them, or Escape to leave the text as it was.
  • Click somewhere else and your edit is kept, too.

Your edits show up on the page straight away and stay put while the app keeps working: new list rows, live updates from other people and sections that open and close all show your new words.

Save

Press Save in the vibe menu (it shows how many edits are waiting). Your edits become a new draft of your app, like a change saved from the Code tab, and they go live for everyone when you publish. The draft is in your history like any other change, and you can go back to the previous version whenever you like. Everything you didn't touch stays exactly as it was, down to the spacing in your code.

If your app changed while you were editing, say from a chat turn, Save finds each of your edits in the new version. Any edit it can't place exactly goes to the chat box, ready for you to send.

Use your app while you edit

  • On a computer: hold Alt (Option on a Mac) and click to use buttons, links and toggles as normal.
  • On a phone: close the menu so the Editing pill shows next to the vibes switch, tap it to switch to Using app, use your app, then tap it again to go back to editing.

Words that come from your data or your code

Some text on the page is built from your data, like a list of items, or put together by code, like "3 items". Clicking it opens the chat with a request already written for you. Send it and the change happens through a normal chat turn.
